Jewellery Skills and Enterprise Development

In support of the JMP concept, the Gauteng IDZ developed and implemented a competitive skills development programme. Known as Design50, the programme was located at Rand Refinery before its relocation to the OR Tambo SEZ.

Over a period of 7 years, the programme successfully trained historically black South Africans in jewellery design skills, ensuring that sufficient skills are available in the market to support investors located at the SEZ.  The Design50 programme has since been re-engineered into an enterprise programme supporting small businesses in the jewellery and diamond sector with opportunities for market offtake, further contributing to the sustainability of businesses in the jewellery industry
